The seminar – Biorefineries Technologies in the Forest Products Industries – is being held this week on Friday 14 October 2016, at 13h45 for 14h00 -15h00 in the ICFR Conference Room, ICFR, Pietermaritzburg, UKZN, Carbis Rd. It will be presented by CSIR’s Dr Bruce Sithole.
Dr Bruce Sithole is a Principal Researcher and Director at the Forestry & Forest Products Research Centre, University of KwaZulu-Natal/Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Durban.
Dr Sithole leads a programme which is focused on development of new value chains from saw mill waste (saw dust and wood chips) and sludge from pulp and paper mill operations.
The aim is to extract valuable chemicals from saw dust and wood chips and nanocrystalline cellulose from the left over fibres and from fibres in the mill sludge.
Producing bioenergy and new biomaterials, in addition to traditional wood, pulp and paper products will lead to competitive synergies, new markets and increased product flexibility for the forestry, pulp and paper industry.
All are welcome to attend and please help us by passing this information on to any colleagues who may be interested in attending.
Please RSVP for catering purposes by Thursday 13 October.
