An Introduction to Modern Tree Breeding

Prof Steve Verryn has championed many tree breeding courses over the years, both in South Africa and abroad. These courses have drawn people from over 130 countries. The courses have ranged from general introductory courses to specialist tree breeding management, BLUP and genetic gains modelling courses. This course will be a week long introductory course in tree breeding, with special emphasis on modern technologies which are finding their place in Tree Breeding. The course will draw on skills from the South African industry and universities.

Tissue World Miami 2018 Conference | Call for papers deadline

Material requirements - Please send by the deadline the following: An abstract of 150 to 200 words and suggested presentation title. Speaker’s name, job title and company name Speaker’s biography of 80 to 100 words Speaker’s photo in high resolution (300dpi) Acceptance of the Abstract Must cover new, innovative technology for tissue makers and converters. Priority will be given to presentations prepared in cooperation with mill personnel (case studies). Co-authors will only be listed; one speaker per speaking slot will be allowed except where case studies with mills will be presented. After reviewing the submitted material, the Program Committee will send notification of acceptance on November 1, 2017. Final Presentation Requirements: High quality visual aids, such as clearly readable text, graphs and charts, should be used in the final presentation. 15 slides maximum will be allowed in the final PowerPoint presentation. 20 minutes will be allocated for each technical presentation. IMPORTANT DATES: Submission Deadline for Abstract: September 29, 2017 (inclusive speaker biography & photo) Notification of Acceptance: November 1, 2017 Submission Deadline for Presentation: January 21, 2018

On Thursday 26 October 2017, the Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA), together with Norfund and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will host the seventh Nordic-African Business Summit. NABA is the largest Nordic business conference focusing exclusively on African markets. The annual NABA conference unites African and Nordic leaders from a range of industries, giving them a unique opportunity to discus experiences, opportunities, challenges - and share their successes regarding Norwegian-African ventures. This year NABA will convene under the theme “Investing in Africa’s transition: how, not why?”.  Africa’s real GDP growth slowed down to 2.2% in 2016, mainly due to the continued fall in commodity prices and weak global economic growth. Yet due to dynamic private sectors, entrepreneurial spirit and vast resources, the continent’s aggregate growth is expected to rise to 3.2% in 2018 and 3.5% in 2019, reflecting a recovery in the largest economies. “Building on the successes of the previous six summits, this year the summit will mix inspiring keynotes with smaller workshops that will show how you can invest in and take part in Africa’s resilient growth.
