NABA-Tappsa

On Thursday 26 October 2017, the Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA), together with Norfund and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will host the seventh Nordic-African Business Summit. NABA is the largest Nordic business conference focusing exclusively on African markets. The annual NABA conference unites African and Nordic leaders from a range of industries, giving them a unique opportunity to discus experiences, opportunities, challenges - and share their successes regarding Norwegian-African ventures. This year NABA will convene under the theme “Investing in Africa’s transition: how, not why?” Africa’s real GDP growth slowed down to 2.2% in 2016, mainly due to the continued fall in commodity prices and weak global economic growth. Yet due to dynamic private sectors, entrepreneurial spirit and vast resources, the continent’s aggregate growth is expected to rise to 3.2% in 2018 and 3.5% in 2019, reflecting a recovery in the largest economies. “Building on the successes of the previous six summits, this year the summit will mix inspiring keynotes with smaller workshops that will show how you can invest in and take part in Africa’s resilient growth. The Summit facilitates face to face conversations with business leaders, politicians and civil society that build trust, a key ingredient to building…

Manufacturing Indaba Western Cape

Manufacturing is the second biggest sector in the Western Cape and contributes about 15% to the South African manufacturing sector output. The province’s agro-processing sector has shown resilience during tough economic times, and its renewables and green tech industries have received significant investments in the past five years. Two thirds of South Africa’s manufacturing investment in renewables is located in the province – that is, 8 out of the country’s 12 manufacturers. In 2011, the vision was launched for Atlantis to become a centre of this green hub and it is a now a designated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for “Greentech”. A further R1 billion is expected to be ploughed into this SEZ over the next five years, particularly in the renewable energy sector. The GreenTech SEZ supports the manufacturing sector to become suppliers and component manufacturers for clean technology, such as renewable energy components. The West Coast Industrial Plan is also forging ahead. This is a partnership between the Department of Economic Development; Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning; and the Department of Public Works – together with the Saldanha Municipality, and Green Cape. A sustainable growth trajectory for the province’s manufacturers is being established through a focused…

27th International Munich Paper Symposium

The IMPS 2018 -the 27th International Munich Paper Symposium - will take place in the modern Sheraton Munich Arabellapark Conference Centre from 7-9 March 2018. Most presentations deal with first time reports and take an analytical, rather than a commercial approach. The speakers share their experiences with relatively new systems and also take a look at some future developments. The IMPS has been held annually for more than two decades and is always focused on current topics related to the paper manufacturing and paper supplying industry. In contrast to many very large conferences, the IMPS will host not more than about 400 participants in…
